Drive Across America

Sorry it’s been so very long since I’ve posted, but I’ve been really busy… working, running errands, driving across the country…

A couple of weeks ago, I was pursuaded (more or less against my will) to begin a 2,300 mile road trip from Florida to Arizona.  It would have been nice to take our time and make a lot of stops…  you know, see our beautiful country.  But I only had 2 vacation days from work.  So I had to see the sights as the whizzed past the window at 80 miles per hour.

Overall, it wasn’t terrible.  The trip was long, but interesting at times, but very long.  Did I mention it was long?  I’m not a big fan of driving… especially when it involves me sitting in a car for 12+ hours per day.  AND when it involves driving through (and over) things I’m afraid of….

Here’s me driving through a scary tunnel.  (We don’t have those in Florida)

And here’s me driving over the Mississippi River.  (I’m scared of heights)

We saw some cool road signs (this one’s the coolest)…

Allison Rd

And some signs that showed us we had ventured a bit outside of civilization.  Like the “Come ‘N’ Git-It Restaurant/Store”.

And I’m pretty sure we encountered some UFOs…

TX Star

Actually that’s a giant star on a big hill in Texas.  Welcome to the Lone Star State I guess…

Once I was about an hour outside of Tucson, I was just about ready to kill myself.  After over 36 hours of driving, the last hour seemed like it would never end!  But it did end, and I finally arrived home safely.

So all in all, here’s what I learned from my Drive Across America :

1.  Texas is really big.

2.  Don’t get the hotdog.

3.  People will try to buy drugs from total strangers at gas stations.

4.  Americans from any state are weirdos, but I still love my country.
